SkillScape is an idle skilling game for the original PlayStation, inspired by Old School RuneScape's classic gather-craft-sell loop. Train 9 skills — Woodcutting, Mining, Fishing, Cooking, Smelting, Woodworking, Firemaking, Smithing, and Crafting — each with its own tier ladder and real level 1–99 XP curve pulled from actual OSRS formulas.

Play it right here — no download, no BIOS, no emulator setup. This page runs real PS1 emulator compiled to WebAssembly. This is an actual playstation 1 game that runs natively on real hardware and in the browser.

How it plays

  • Active or Passive training — stand and time your button presses for the fast rate, or switch a skill to Passive and let it grind in the background while you work another
  • Real progression — better tools cut your gather time, higher tiers unlock as you level, and the economy is tuned for a genuine long-term grind (roughly 100 hours to max everything)
  • Two shops — sell what you gather and buy tool upgrades at the General Store; spend Tokens earned from Collection achievements on permanent account-wide perks at the Token Shop
  • Collection log — every skill tracks two parallel achievement lines: total items gathered and total value produced, so grinding the cheapest item isn't automatically the best strategy
  • Memory card saves — 2 save slots, tested on both emulator and real hardware (native builds only — see below)

Controls

A real controller (USB/Bluetooth, standard layout) works automatically once connected. Keyboard:

PS1 buttonKey
D-pad Arrow keys

In-game: X opens/confirms, O backs out, Triangle toggles Active/Passive on a skill screen, Select opens the screensaver to protect from burn-in.

V0.5 — Early Access. This is a from-scratch homebrew project, still actively developed — 3 skill slots are reserved but not built yet, and balance is still being tuned.

Special note:
This game was primarily vibe coded over the course of 3 days. I respect the skills of PSX developers and in no way am trying to pass this as a project I hand-coded. This is a fun project that I decided to work on under a strict time-limit as I don't have much free time for these kinds of things. I simply thought it would be fun to have an idle game on my playstation and play it on my CRTs. I'd like to revisit this in the next few weeks after release. Source code is released as well as a requirement of the PSoXide SDK stack.
